First Time’s the Charm for Jamie Murray and Andre Sa

September 26, 2011

Lifting the big trophy at the end isn’t a bad way to mark a debut partnership!

Jamie Murray and Andre Sa, who were playing in their first tournament together, won the title at the ATP stop in Metz over Lukas Dlouhy and Marcelo Melo, 6-4, 7-6(7). It was Murray’s sixth career title and Sa’s seventh. The champs know their doubles and have had success with a variety of partners over the years, so it’s not much of a surprise they were able to blend so well together.

A bit of familiarity probably helped, too, as Sa probably knows Melo’s game and tendencies like the back of his hand, having won five titles and reached three others with him!

Congrats to those two, and the other weekend winners:

* In Bucharest, Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace beat Julian Knowle and David Marrero 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

* At the WTA stop in Guangzhou, Hsieh Su-Wei and Zheng Saisai dominated Chan Chin-Wei and Han Xinyun 6-2, 6-1. Like Murray and Sa, Hsieh and Zheng were another first-time pairing.

* In Korea, top seeds Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova beat the singles finalist Galina Voskoboeva and her partner, Vera Dushevina, 7-6(5), 6-4. Grandin deserves an extra congrats for winning her first WTA title–in her 11th final!
