WTF Preview: It All Comes Down to Experience

November 20, 2011

(With matches mere moments away, it seems, now would be a good time to get this in! Enjoy the first day!)

In my earlier post, I mentioned how among the bottom four teams competing at the ATP World Tour Finals, there was a team that has won a couple of Majors during the course of its partnership.

That’s nice.

Among the top four teams, Slams have been won in the double digits.

Bob and Mike Bryan, Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic, Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi, and Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes are as fearsome a foursome as one could imagine. All of them–save for Llodra–have spent time at the top of the doubles rankings. I could take some time and count the titles won between them all, but that’s just too huge a task for me to undertake right now!

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that these teams are very experienced, and it would be hard to imagine the title not being won among them. It’s going to come down to who manages the lower-seeded teams better: A slip can be devastating to their chances to advance.

A slip, though, can’t be entirely counted on because with the experience these four teams have, it could easily be all four of them in the semis.
