Paul Hanley and Jamie Murray: Hitting Their Stride?

February 2, 2012

At this week’s ATP World Tour stop in Montpellier, France, the semifinals are set and the only seeded team to make it that far is the new pairing of Paul Hanley and Jamie Murray. They take on Dustin Brown and Lovro Zovko with a good chance of making their first final of the year.

Hanley and Murray have played a few tournaments together this season, going 1-3 before this week. They’re both veterans, though, and a commitment to each other for the season could prove beneficial. Hanley’s been through almost every type of situation out there, except for winning a Slam. He’s been in the top five, won on all surfaces and has bagged some Masters 1000 titles along the way. Murray’s picked up a few titles over the years, and has a big lefty game to give opponents a different look–kind of like Hanley’s old partner Wayne Arthurs.

A depleted draw in France this week is something the pair would do well to take advantage of. Of course, it’s too soon to start etching their names on the trophy, but the opportunity is there to lift the big hardware at the end of the week.
