Huber and Raymond Settle In to a Nice Groove

February 22, 2012

Even though Australia didn’t go as planned, top Americans Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond obviously seem to have hit their stride. The duo has won two titles in a row in Paris and Doha, and is going for its third this week in Dubai.

Sometimes it just takes a little bit for a veteran pair to start racking up the titles at the pace they’re accustomed to, even though I guess it didn’t really take too much time for Huber and Raymond: It’s only February!

They’re already in the semifinals in Dubai, the first team to get there. They defeated solid doubles players Julia Goerges and Zheng Jie in a tough first-rounder, and had an easier time in the quarters. It’s a good chance they could meet fellow Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears (who are already having a career year) in the semis. Should they get past that, their foes in the finals could be Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina, who beat Huber and Raymond in a hotly contested quarterfinal at the Australian Open.

Still, though, 10 wins in a row at this point is quite impressive, and a streak Huber and Raymond are looking to extend.
