The Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin Connection

February 24, 2012

That headline is me trying to be creative: Get it?

Anyway, the French duo is playing a little lights out right now, having reached their second final in a row. After winning in Montpellier, they’re now going for another title on home turf. In Marseille, they’re slated to face either Mahesh Bhupathi/Rohan Bopanna or Dustin Brown/Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Both of those teams have the potential to bring a lot of heat in the finals, but Mahut and Roger-Vasselin seem to play with more of a classical, steady style. They’re both solid singles players who think in attack-mode, and that’s always what you need to do in doubles.

Another thing: It’s kind of rare that you see singles players get on such a hot streak in dubs: Granted, Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner have been ballin’, winning two Slams. Maybe Mahut and Roger-Vasselin are heading that way?

Or maybe it’s just playing on home turf is to their liking!
