The Bryan Brothers as Role Models

April 20, 2012

So I posted something along the lines of the headline there on @dubsalley the other day saying that if the top American male singles players tackled the season like Bob and Mike Bryan, there wouldn’t be a drought of Grand Slam singles champions from the U.S.

Of course, I said it there in 140 characters or less!

I honestly believe that, though. The only American playing singles abroad the past two weeks has been Donald Young. With the French Open coming up, why not get the jump on playing in Europe and under those conditions?

The Bryan Brothers do everything possible to prepare for every Grand Slam, red clay or not. They’re in the semifinals this week in Monte Carlo and I’m sure you can see the former French Open champions getting at least that far at Roland Garros.

The notion that clay is a surface that doesn’t suit American singles players should be dispelled and every effort should be made as far as preparing for the French goes. If that means traveling abroad, then that’s what should be done.

The Bryans are doing it and they have the hardware to show that it pays off.
