A Hall of Fame Matchup on the Horizon in Men’s Doubles at the French Open?

Tomorrow at the French Open, the semifinals see world number-one pair Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor face off against Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace in one match while Bob and Mike Bryan go up against Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer.

Bracciali/Starace and Qureshi/Rojer have done quite well to get to this point: For the Italians, this is the farthest either of them have ever gotten in a Slam. Qureshi and Rojer have seen the later rounds at Majors in the past—however, with different partners. This is their first year playing together and they seem to have gotten into a nice groove of late.

But for both of those teams, they’re facing some rather tall odds in the semis. And should the more experienced pairs come through, you’re looking at a premier matchup in the finals.

Mirnyi and Nestor are the defending champions, while the Bryans are trying to win their second career title at Roland Garros, which was also the site of their first Grand Slam crown. There really are no secrets between the two teams should they both get to the finals and the level of play should be exceptionally high.

Of course, there are still the semifinal matches to play, but both teams are hard to beat at this stage, making a Hall-of-Fame-worthy final more than likely.
